INFORMATIVE CAMPAIGN for Human Rights

INFORMATIVE CAMPAIGN

for Human Rights

The Commissioner for Administration and the Protection of Human Rights, in view of the 30th anniversary of the introduction of the institution of the Commissioner of Administration in the Republic of Cyprus, is organizing an Informative Campaign regarding Human Rights.

The beginning of this campaign was December 3rd, 2021, being the International Day of Disabled Persons, when a short video / spot was published regarding the rights of persons with disabilities.

Then, on December 10th, the date of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948, which has been designated as World Human Rights Day, the campaign culminated in a video screening.

This video / spot shows the 30-year course that the institution of the Commissioner of Administration and the Protection of Human Rights has carried out so far, through all the responsibilities, reminding the need to protect and safeguard all human rights under any circumstances, as the institution of control over the observance of legality, but also as the pre-eminently independent body for the protection of the human rights of all, without exception, individuals without any discrimination.

The video / spot is posted on the website on social media (facebook and twitter) and on the youtube account of our Office and is shown free of charge by the television stations, so that the general public has the opportunity to be informed about their human rights and how they can be safeguarded and promoted through the institution of the Commissioner for Administration and the Protection of Human Rights.

As the Commissioner for Administration and the Protection of Human Rights noted in her Ex officio Intervention, as an Independent Human Rights Institution, on the occasion of the World Human Rights Day, "... This year, December 10th is marked, as in 2020, by the ongoing pandemic that still exists and afflicts humanity and the questioning of a multitude of human rights that were previously considered non-negotiable. People end up being discriminated against because of their choices and, the need arises, now more than ever, for the State to raise the issue of safeguarding and protecting the human rights of all citizens, without discrimination…".

On December 10th, 2021, the Commissioner, as a member of the jury for the awarding of the 1st Human Rights Award "Stella Soulioti" attended a relevant event held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Furthermore, for the purpose of offering more complete information to the citizens regarding the human rights and how they are protected and safeguarded through the 30-year course of the institution of the Commissioner for Administration and the Protection of Human Rights, the Commissioner of Administration appeared on the TV show “Μεσημέρι και κάτι”, on the occasion of the World Human Rights Day.
On the afternoon of 10th December 2021, the Commissioner attended and welcomed a conference organized by the Human Rights Committee and the International and European Law Committee of the Cyprus Bar Association, in collaboration with the Council of Europe on the occasion of the Rights.

Following the actions in the framework of the informative campaign for Human Rights, on December 13th, 2021, a press conference was held during which an anniversary stamp was presented, which was prepared on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the introduction of the institution of Commissioner for Human Rights and the Protection of Human Right in the Republic of Cyprus.
